Baptism
The transformation of Faith and Community
Through water at baptism, God embraces you — no matter who you are or where you are from— and brings you into Christ's Church. You become vital not only to a local church, but the wider Church. You share in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. The church also promises to love, support, and care for you throughout your whole life. Baptized, you now participate fully in life of the Church and God's realm.
We practice both infant and believer's baptism, following the tradition and desires of each family. Baptisms happen in the context of worship because the whole community desires to welcome you into the body of Christ. The act of being baptized is both intensely personal and essentially communal.
First Congregational United Church of Christ Moorhead is a non creedal church. There is no test of faith one must proclaim before being baptized. If you have a passion for the story of Jesus, and wish to make a commitment in your life to living more fully into your understanding of being a follower of Christ, baptism is open to you. If you desire to raise your children in a Christian church, with the support of a welcoming community to help them wrestle with their own understanding of God, then we are happy to baptize your children into our community.
